About the Guide: CONTEXT & INTENT

Universities across the nation, being filled with aspiring “world changers,” have a plethora of student organizations that are focused on working toward education equity in surrounding areas and communities. Many of these organizations provide supplemental education in communities with low socioeconomic statuses, which, based on the inherently racist systems built into our society, have high populations of black and other students of color.

While many of these student organizations go through yearly or bi-yearly Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) trainings to address topics such as implicit biases and entering/exiting communities other than one’s own, continual efforts revolving around anti-racist education are often lacking. The work of being an anti-racist in thought and practice is on-going for individuals and organizations, and is especially important when engaging with outside communities of color on a regular basis. It is crucial for student organizations to enter and exit communities without further cementing systems of oppression. Actively engaging in anti-racist thought and practice is a key step in dismantling those systems.

This website provides resources organized in a thematically structured guide for college student organizations to use throughout the school year to supplement their actively anti-racist efforts. Click on the circles to find resources and discussion prompts regarding specific topics or navigate to "THE GUIDE" for an overview of all resources and a recommended sequence for working through them.
